Description:
Marble inscribed panels of a screen with relief decoration. Crosses with two horizontal cross arms are bordered by rosettes, peacocks, eagles and letters on medals. The first cross is formed by tripartite interlaced bands and it is depicted under an elaborate column-based apse, whereas the second one is woven. They come from the destroyed church of Hagios Ioannis Mangoutis in Athens. A metrical and calligraphic inscription is defective on the banded frame of the two panels. It is mentioned in the renovation of the temple by members of the Athenian family of the Sporgites. The inscription has been dated to the twelfth century A.D. Based on the decorative themes, the technique and their style the panels can be dated to the eleventh - twelfth century A.D.
