Description:
The fragment is preserved in bad condition. The bigger part of a female head is preserved identified with Martha according to the inscription on the blue ground. In all probability, she is Lazarus’ sister, Martha, an assumption that leads us to the conclusion that it derives from the Christological circle scene with Lazarus’ Raising. The figure turned to the side wears a red maphorion and has similar features with the other angels of the wall painting in the same church (see Two Angels).
The church of Hagios Nikolaos lies in the Cemetery of Kalamos outside of the village. It is a cross-vaulted church, which is built on an older temple, dated to the 13th century. It is rubble masonry without brick-work or dentil courses. From the wall paintings decorating the interior only fragments from the roof have been preserved, mainly saints’ and angels’ faces.
