Three abacus patterns

Description:
The wall painting is preserved in good condition. Three abacus patterns are depicted in rectangular frames bordered by rectangular vertical parts, which imitate marble plaques. The inner part of the a.p. also imitates marble revetment. The wall painting comes from the lower part of the monumental decoration of an important public building. The latter came to light in the town center during the recent construction work in the Athenian metropolitan railway. The wall painting is a continuation of a fragment with similar decoration (Abacus pattern fragment), with which it formed a corner. The extensive building complex, which covered an area of 510 square meters, was founded in the 2nd century A.D. on an older cemetery. It consisted of 15 rooms, 4 of which were decorated with mosaics and wall paintings.
