Marble fragment of an epistyle with flat-relief decoration. Interlaced bands of the same width constitute an aesthetic ornament based on a heart-shaped palmette, which is characterized by accuracy, symmetry and plasticity. The epistyle belongs to a group of sculptures in the Byzantine museum that have a similar flat-relief décor with eastern influences. These sculptures have similar technical and stylish characteristics and are dated to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries A.D. It comes from Athens.
