Description:
Fragment of a marble panel with relief decoration. Interlaced bands form a central rhombus and rotae in the corner triangles that envelop a rosette, an ivy leaf, and an isosceles cross. The decorative subject, which is common in the panel ornamentation of the middle Byzantine period, simple or complicated, is given with plasticity and decorative attitude. It comes from Athens, Stoa of Attalos. Late tenth – early eleventh century.
