Theodoroi, Hagioi, Peta (Keratea)

Area: Peta (Keratea)
Type: Aisleless, Barrel-Vaulted Basilica
Date: 12th-13th century

Description:
The church is situated in Peta, outside Keratea close to the church of Hagia Kyriaki in Megali Avli. It is a single naved, barrel-vaulted church that has suffered alterations and cement annexes. As a result, the Byzantine character of the monument has been totally damaged. An inscription dedicated to the Great Gods (Megaloi Theoi) has been found in the church. Exquisite wall paintings decorate the church, which can be found in the sanctuary. In the apse is depicted the imposing Virgin Mary surrounded by the impressive archangels with their noble features. This is an uncommon representation for a remote and somehow insignificant area such as Byzantine Attica. The wall paintings are of great artistic value dated to the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century.
