Aimilianos, Hagios, Markopoulon

Area: Dagla (Markopoulon)
Type: Basilica
Date: phases

Description:

The ruins of the small church are located in Liada (Markopoulo) next to Dagla hill (where we can find the medieval tower, church ruins and the church of Taxiarchis Dagla). These ruins on the northern foot of Merenda mountain are known as Hagios Aimilianos. Following the excavations that took place at the site it has been established that buildings of at least four seasons existed in that position. The initial building used to be baths dated to the Roman period. During the early Christian years it was converted after certain alterations (annex of an aisle in the southern side) into a basilica.
