Kyriaki, Hagia, Keratea
Area: Megali Auli, Keratea Type: Date: 12th century
Description: The church is situated in Megali Auli (ancient demos of Kephali) outside Keratea. It is a small, barrel-vaulted, single-naved church , which has suffered external damages.
The interior wall paintings are very interesting. They are the work of two painters, as it becomes evident by the differentiation in style and technique. We can accurately date them (from an inscription found in the southern side of the sanctuary) to 1197/98.
Some of the wall paintings are: in the main church Palm Sunday, the Nativity, the Raising of Lazaros, while in the sanctuary, in the apse Theotokos is presented enthroned holding baby Christ between angels, the Melismos. On the northern wall, opposite the Metamorphosis wall painting is the rare representation of Hagios Eustathios. The saint is depicted on a white horse, while on the upper part of the representation, on the right, a deer with a halo is portrayed, from the saint’s well-known vision.
