Frankish Tower, Vraona

Date: Frankish rule

Description:
A tower dated to the Frankish rule is preserved in good condition on the street leading from Markopoulon to Vraona. It was part of the general fortification system, a practice established by the Frankish rulers in order to be able to control significant passes and also to deal with dangers by pirate raids. This network included more fortification towers in Mesogaia and generally in Attica. Nowadays, in Mesogaia, most of these towers have been destroyed. Apart from the Vraona tower, the Dagla tower in Markopoulon is preserved in good condition, while destroyed are the towers in Filiati in Koropi and in Miskopi and Kokkina in Paiania.
