Church of H. Nikolaos. View from NE. (Photograph in the album of Archimandrite Stergiou Gr.)

Nikolaos, Hagios, Megara

Area: Elaionas, Megara
Type: Cross-in-Square
Date: 13th - 15th century

Description:

The church, which is located in Elaion in Megara, is a simple, four-columned, cross-in-square church with no narthex.

It is dated to the Palaeologan period (13th – 15th century).

The lack of figures from the Turkish domination as well as the general form of the monument lead us to this dating.

A wall painting preserved on the southern wall next to the screen (Hagios Nikolaos) is much more recent, since it is dated to the 18th century.
